Now people in the EU should understand Ukraine better

From 9 till 12 of December, 2009, a presentation of a publication “Ukraine in Europe: Questions and Answers” took place in Germany (Berlin, Cologne, Munich). The publication was prepared and published by experts of School for Political Analytics, affiliated with the National University of “Kyiv-Mohyla Academy”. The work on the publication was supported by the International Renaissance Foundation and the Friedrich Naumann Foundation.

The project “Ukraine in Europe: Questions and Answers” is the first project, supported by the European Program of the International Renaissance Foundation, within the framework of the direction of integration between Ukraine and the EU on the level of organizations of the civil society and analytical centers. One of the goals of the support of the direction is promotion of the European Union’s wider access to Ukrainian experts’ opinions and views and, correspondingly, facilitation of the European Union’s better understanding of Ukraine.

This publication strives to provide answers to questions about Ukraine, which are often posed by foreigners. The publication contains short and informative answers regarding European and Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine and also provides the basics for understanding of the Ukrainian politics and the society in general. Describing Ukraine’s foreign policy, the publication familiarizes readers with foundations of Ukraine’s domestic policy. The publication notes that Ukraine’s culture, political system and geopolitics are much closer to Europe than to Eurasia and this factor should determine the direction of the development of Ukraine.

It is planned to run a presentation of the publication in London at the beginning of 2010 (in cooperation with the European Council on Foreign Relations).
