In 2023, the Foundation’s support for civil society organizations reached a record-breaking UAH 653 million, the highest figure in its 33-year history. We supported 393 projects from 236 civil society organizations, large and small.
This year brought the realization that resilience and endurance will determine success in facing extraordinary challenges.
The global structure of the Open Society Foundations saw the transfer of leadership to a new generation of the founding family, with Alexander Soros at the helm. Soros reaffirmed his continued support for Ukraine. The Foundation also underwent internal transformations while maintaining its autonomy and self-governance and received a new Board.
Having passed the stage of spot response to emergency threats, we have moved on to a strategy of promoting long-term resistance to aggression, strengthening the resilience of society and its democratic foundations by supporting the most important and viable civic initiatives, strengthening citizen self-reliance and self-organization, promoting Ukraine’s interests in the world, and promoting European and Euro-Atlantic integration.
