February 26, a discussion on the topic “Youth of Europe and south of Ukraine: What unites us” took place at the Central Library named after Mykhailo Kropyvnytsky.
The discussion was organized by Mykolaiv City Charitable Foundation META “From Joint Vision to Joint Actions” within the framework of the project “Information and Education Campaign “European Mykolaiv City Open to the World , under the support of the International Renaissance Foundation.
The Central Library named after Mykhailo Kropyvnytsky and the Center for Social Programs of RUSAL acted the co-organizers of the discussion “Youth of Europe and south of Ukraine: What unites us”.
The following people participated in the discussion of youth problems and ways for their resolution: representatives of bodies of state authority, local public organizations, student self-government bodies, youth municipality, creative associations, volunteers, members of English-speaking conversational club of the library.
Such discussion was held in Mykolaiv already for the third time.
In December of 2009, during the first discussion “Values of Mykolaiv residents and Europeans: ‘parallels’ and ‘perpendiculars’” Mykolaiv residents expressed their point of view on general human values that are most characteristic for residents of our region.
During the second discussion “Pоlycultural Parallels of the South of Ukraine” in February of this year, the following topics were discussed: historical roots of the culture of the region, problems of preservation of traditions of ethnic groups that populate our land, development of local national-cultural societies and cultural cooperation of the region with European countries.
During the discussion “Youth of Europe and south of Ukraine: What unites us”, the attendees discussed youth’s participation in exchange programs, public and charitable activities, volunteer work, conditions for creative self-fulfillment in our city and healthy lifestyle. Most participants expressed their opinions in favor of that young residents of Mykolaiv have many characteristics that are common with European youth. That is facilitated by those public, educational and cultural processes that develop in Mykolaiv right now.
