Roma forum theater: interactive performances on social issues

Kyiv hosted the Roma forum theater featuring interactive performances on social issues

On December 8 Kyiv hosted the Roma forum theater featuring interactive performances on social issues. The event was organized by the Congress of National Communities of Ukraine and Kyiv Educational Center “Tolerance Space” with support from the International Renaissance Foundation’s Roma of Ukraine Program.

Participants included youth and NGO activists.

Performances about Roma children turned away from school because of their ethnicity and mixed Roma marriages were shown. The audience offered solutions to the situations. Issues raised during the discussion included the authority of fathers in Roma families, responsibility of young people that want to get married, and the importance of support from friends and relatives.

A forum theater is a special form of theater in which amateur actors perform scenes from real life and audience members participate in discussion. Forum theater was created by Augusto Boal.
