Euromaidan – top political event of 2013

The poll was conducted by the Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiative Foundation and Razumkov Center

A majority of Ukrainians (75%) believe the Euromaidan was the top political event of 2013. This according to the results of the poll conducted by the Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiative Foundation and Razumkov Center with support from the International Renaissance Foundation and Matra Program of the Netherlands Embassy in Ukraine.

12% of surveyed personally participated in protest actions. 50% of the population supports the protests, 42% does not (7% undecided), 2.5% of the population doesn’t know about any protests in Ukraine.

A majority of the population (51%) believes the government is committing political repression (28% do not support this opinion).
 
If early presidential elections had been held in late December and the three leaders of the opposition parties ran, Viktor Yanukovych (30%) and Vitaliy Klitschko (22%) would make it to round 2. There has been a sharp drop in number of undecided voters, from 23% to 10%.

If a referendum on joining the EU was held, a majority (48%) of the population would vote in favor of entry, 36% against, 7% undecided, and 9% wouldn’t vote in the referendum. A referendum on joining the Customs Union would look differently: a majority (45%) would vote against it, 35% for, 9% undecided, and 10% wouldn’t vote in the referendum.

71% of the population believes that the overall situation in Ukraine has worsened, 17% believes it hasn’t changed, and 7% saw improvement.

The survey was conducted on December 20-24, 2013. The sample consisted of 2010 respondents aged 18 and over from all regions of Ukraine. The margin of error is 2.3%.
