Kyiv hosted the expanded expert meeting “Informal Education: Ukraine in the Context of Regional Democratic Transformations” within the framework of the Ukrainian National Platform of the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum
On October 14-15 Kyiv hosted the expanded expert meeting “Informal Education: Ukraine in the Context of Regional Democratic Transformations” within the Ukrainian National Platform of the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum. The event was organized by the Europe XXI Foundation and the In-Service Training Institute of the Academy of Advocacy of Ukraine with support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic and the International Renaissance Foundation European Program.
Experts believe that informal education is an effective strategy for introducing democratic values and promoting regional transformations in Eastern Partnership countries. In this context, experts from Ukraine, Moldova, Belarus, Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan believe the main task is to create a culture for the consumption of informal education services. In their opinion, this will also help improve quality of life.
The participants of the gathering noted that a basic document on informal education in Ukraine needs to be approved and stressed the need to analyze which Council of Europe, EU and OSCE documents related to informal education have been signed by Ukraine and how they are being implemented. In their opinion, there needs to be defined criteria for informal education and a competency approach. They suggest that the document should focus special attention on identifying the subjects and spheres of informal education, mechanisms for implementing it in Ukraine, etc.
According to the experts, the informal education fair that is to be held in Kyiv in January 2013 is an important event. Colleagues from Belarus already have experience organizing such events.

The essential role of the European Program lies in promotion of Ukraine’s European integration, combining external pressure of the EU with the domestic one of the Ukrainian civil society, and thus contributing to promotion of open society values in Ukraine.
