From 27 September till 4 October of 2009, within the framework of the project “Slovakian experience of public diplomacy in the area of European and Euro-Atlantic integration — what can Ukraine take for itself?”, roundtables took place in such cities as Uzhhorod, Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia and Donetsk, with participation of Slovakian and Ukrainian experts in the area of European and Euro-Atlantic integration, representatives of corresponding NGOs and mass media.
Program of the events:
- 28 September — roundtable in the premises of Uzhhorod National University, Uzhhorod;
- 30 September — press conference in Ukrinform Agency, Kyiv;
- 1 October — roundtable in the premises of the Expocenter “Meteor”, Dnipropetrovsk;
- 2 October — roundtable in the premises of Zaporizhzhia National University, Zaporizhzhia;
- 3 October — roundtable in the premises of Donetsk National University, Donetsk.
Also, the following events took place: meetings with student youth, discussions among experts and working meetings with representatives of public organizations and representatives of the Embassy of Slovakia in Ukraine.
The goal of the project is to disseminate best practices for running public diplomacy regarding European and Euro-Atlantic integration, enhancement of the role and professional level of think tanks in the European integration processes of Ukraine and also joint search for ways to overcome the current political and economic crisis.
The Project is being fulfilled by the Democratic Initiatives Foundation and Institute of Public Matters (Slovakia), under the financial support of the East East: Partnership Beyond Borders Program of the International Renaissance Foundation (Ukraine) and Open Society Fund-Bratislava (Slovakia).
