A presentation of the European Integration Electronic Directory

A presentation of the directory was held on December 12, 2005 at the UNIAN information agency. The database was created due to the need of the wide strata of the Ukrainian population and professional groups for access to systematic data on European integration issues. The directory was presented in the form of an Internet-resource database — http://eu-directory.ea-ua.info/ and CDs containing the database that will later be distributed to libraries, educational institutions, public organizations, mass media, public authorities, business structures, etc.

“This directory represents the most comprehensive source of reference and contact information for Ukraine related to issues of European integration for those who work in the respective sphere or are interested in European issues,” said Director of the Center for Peace, Conversion and Foreign Policy of Ukraine Oleksandr Sushko in his opening remarks.

“Development of this directory is a component of the strategy implemented by the International Renaissance Foundation aimed at raising awareness and consolidation of initiatives and resources concerning the issues of European integration,” Manager of the IRF European Programme Iryna Solonenko said.

“Creation of the electronic directory on European integration was the next step on the road to implementation of Ukraine’s European aspirations, support for which is a priority of the Eurasia Foundation,” said Mykhailo Minakov, manager of the Eurasia Foundation, in his presentation.

“This directory will provide people with comprehensive information about EU-Ukraine relationship and Ukraine’s European integration and help the stakeholders find partners both in Ukraine and in the EU”, Project Manager Olena Prystayko said.

The overall structure of the directory is as follows:

І. OFFICIAL INFORMATION about the EU, EU member states, candidate states and Ukraine, as well as institutional structure and actors dealing with policy-making in the field of European integration.

ІІ. LEGAL BASIS, which regulates European integration processes, EU policies, relations between the EU and Ukraine, and Ukraine’s European integration policy.

ІІІ. ORGANIZATIONS, including think tanks and universities that train specialists in European integration; organizations that support European integration projects, and programs in Ukraine; businesses in Ukraine, EU member states and candidate states.

ІV. PERSONS: information about key experts, public and political figures in Ukraine, EU member states and candidate states in the field of European integration.

V. INFORMATION RESOURCES in Ukraine, EU member states and candidate states that cover European integration issues and related projects.

The European Integration electronic directory was created by the Center for Peace, Conversion and Foreign Policy of Ukraine under the initiative and support of the International Renaissance Foundation and the Eurasia Foundation.
