Implementation of EITI Initiative proposed for Ukraine’s energy strategy

As the experts learned, the document doesn’t mentioned Ukraine’s commitment to join EITI

The Energy Transparency Association has appealed to the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry to add Ukraine’s implementation of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) to the new draft Energy Strategy through 2030. The issue was initiated by the Dixi Group think tank with the support of the Civil Society and Good Governance Program of the International Renaissance Foundation.

As the experts learned, the document doesn’t mentioned Ukraine’s commitment to join EITI, but does propose “creating transparent and stable conditions for the exploration and extraction of hydrocarbons”.

In its letter, the Energy Transparency Association proposed that changes be made to the sections “Priority Directions for State Regulation in the Oil and Gas Sector”, “State Regulation and Ownership Structure”, “Programs and Documents Required to Implement the Energy Strategy”. The experts reminded the ministry of the Ukrainian government’s obligations regarding EITI before the IMF and EU and within the framework of the Open Government Partnership (starting in 2009).
