September 5, a roundtable on the topic “Hepatitis C in Ukraine: Unrecognized Epidemic. Legal, Medical and Social Analysis” took place in Kyiv.
The main goal of the roundtable was presentation of the up-to-date data regarding current situation with hepatitis C in Ukraine; description and analysis of this situation was presented in a report and one more goal of the roundtable was development of the plan of joint actions with partner organizations and signing of Memorandum on Consolidation of Efforts in the Area of Assistance to People Ill with Viral Hepatitides. The program of further actions was developed on the basis of conclusions and recommendations of the experts, who had participated in preparation of the report.
The Resolution with Recommendations on Resolving the Problem of Hepatitis C in Ukraine, developed and signed by experts and public activists, was the result of the roundtable; public organizations also signed the Memorandum on Cooperation and Direction of their Further Actions to facilitate the adoption of a state program of assistance to people ill with hepatitis C in Ukraine.
Participants of the Roundtable were the following persons: experts, who provided their recommendations regarding resolution of this problem, doctors, lawyers, epidemiologists, representatives of NGOs, WHO and state structures, as well as representatives of public organizations.
The Roundtable was the final stage of a project called “Creation of Prerequisites for Adoption of State Program in the Area of Chronic Viral Hepatitides in Ukraine”, which was implemented by Public Organization “М’АRТ” (city of Chernihiv) and “Initiative for Assistance to People Ill with Viral Hepatitides “Dolkar”, under financial support of the International Renaissance Foundation.
