How can we find a balance between freedom of speech and responsible communication to jointly strengthen Ukraine’s credibility among international partners? How to define the optimal framework for responsible information during martial law to protect national interests and ensure openness of society?
These and other questions brought together participants of the roundtable discussion ‘Dialogue between the government, media and civil society and the balance of information in wartime’, organised by The Aspen Institute Kyiv.
The event was held with the support of the International Renaissance Foundation and the EU project ‘Continuation of Support to Comprehensive Public Administration Reform in Ukraine’ (EU4PAR).
The discussion was attended by representatives of the Office of the President of Ukraine, members of the Ukrainian Parliament, representatives of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, editors-in-chief of media outlets, heads of communication agencies, representatives of civil society organisations, and leaders of other areas related to information policy.
The meeting was held off the record.
The roundtable was moderated by Denys Poltavets, Director of Programme Development at The Aspen Institute Kyiv, and Andriy Kulakov, Programme Coordinator for the Aspen Institute Kyiv Community.
The roundtable was coordinated by Olena Fomina, Director of Programmes at The Aspen Institute Kyiv.
We sincerely thank the participants for their openness, sincerity and willingness to discuss complex but important issues. The roundtable has become a space for finding understanding and assessing differences, as well as for generating constructive ideas that bring us closer to a common goal – the preservation and development of the Ukrainian state and society.
