Only one-third of Ukrainian voters believe party affiliation of candidates is important
Only one-third of Ukrainian voters believe party affiliation of candidates running in majority constituencies in the 2012 parliamentary elections is important, while one in five don’t connect a candidate with a party. This according to Iryna Bekeshkina, Director of the Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation (DIF), who cited the results of a recent public opinion poll. The survey was conducted by DIF and the Razumkov Center with support from the International Renaissance Foundation and the Embassy of the Netherlands in Ukraine.
34% of those surveyed plan to vote for the candidate that represents the party they support. 24.5% of respondents said they will take party affiliation into consideration, while 20.3% believe votes for candidates and parties are not related. 20.7% don’t have a clear opinion on the matter.
The survey was conducted on August 10-15, 2012. 2009 respondents, aged 18 and older, were interviewed in all regions of Ukraine. The margin of error is 2.3%.
