According to psychologists, approximately one in five defenders requires comprehensive rehabilitation after captivity. To help them with this, Ukraine’s first centre for Ukrainians who have been tortured or suffered severe psychological trauma as a result of the war was recently opened in Lviv, and psychological meetings, support groups and other events are being held in various regions.
The initiator of this project was the Union of Wounded Military Personnel of Ukraine ‘Mitsni 300’ with the support of the International Renaissance Foundation. It invites defenders who have been captured to free group therapy in Kyiv, according to veteran.com.ua.
The psychologist for the ‘Circle of the Strong’ project will be an active military officer with relevant education and professional training. The organisers chose him for a reason, as recovery among brothers and sisters in arms in a safe environment happens faster, and their own similar experiences contribute to a deeper mutual understanding.
The group therapy programme is scheduled to last three months (from September to November 2025), with sessions taking place in Kyiv (the exact location will be announced after registration). Participants can expect:
– meetings with veterans who have already returned to life and are pursuing careers in business, sports, and the arts;
– trips to interesting events and locations to experience the taste of freedom;
– sincere, supportive communication without judgement or unnecessary questions.
To join the group, you need to fill out a short online form at the link. The deadline for applications is 31 August 2025.
