From 24 to 27 September, at the Livadia Palace in Yalta, the 6th Annual Meeting of Yalta European Strategy (YES) was held – the largest informal forum on strategic relations of Ukraine and the world. Since 2004, the forum brings together leading politicians, businessmen, public figures and journalists from over 20 different countries. The major topic of this year’s annual meeting will address the post crisis development of Ukraine and the world.
The 6th annual meeting was joined by:
- the IMF Head of Mission to Ukraine Ceila Pazarbasioglu;
- the World Bank Vice President for Europe and Central Asia Region Philippe Le Houerou;
- Adviser to the Nabucco Pipeline Project, former Foreign Office Minister of Germany Joschka Fischer;
- Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation on economic relations with countries of the CIS, former Prime Minister of the Russian Federation and Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Ukraine Victor Chernomyrdin;
- Chairman of Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs of Sweden Goran Lennmarker;
- Vice Chairman of the China Institute of Strategy and Management, Ambassador and former Permanent Representative of China to the UN Wu Jianmin;
- Chairman of the National Bank of Ukraine Board Petro Poroshenko and President of Poland, 1995-2005, Alexander Kwasniewski.
In total, over 200 politicians, business leaders and public figures took part in this year’s meeting.
During the series of discussions Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko, Leader of the Party of Regions Victor Yanukovich and Leader of the Front of Change Initiative Arsenyi Yatseniuk presented their vision for the future of Ukraine.
Among the key topics at the plenary sessions held on 25 and 26 September at the White Hall of the Livadia Palace were the new world economic order after the crisis, energy security, the future of Ukraine and EU, architecture of the Ukrainian-Russian relations and China’s influence on the global economy development.
The 6th Annual Meeting of Yalta European Strategy (YES) had a number of special live TV conference sessions on its agenda.
There were three TV bridges included into the meeting programme. The first one with the President of Israel Shimon Peres took place on Friday, 25 September. The topic of the discussion was state-building experience and consolidation of political elites.
Live TV conference with the financier, public figure and founder of the Open Society Institute George Soros was broadcasted on the same day, addressing a wide range of issues on the current status and prospects of the global economy development.
Dominique Strauss-Kahn, Managing Director of the IMF, and Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve of the United States, joined live TV discussion on Saturday, 26 September. Together with other YES participants they talked about post crisis development of the global economy, credit and finance in particular.
Yalta European Strategy (YES) – is an international non-partisan network established in 2004 by the Ukrainian businessman and public figure Victor Pinchuk. The mission of the network is to promote the development of a just, free and prosperous Ukraine; to support Ukraine’s reforms and its eventual accession to the EU.
