Society condemned those candidates that in 2012 expected to win through bribery, experts say
The 2012 parliamentary elections were the first elections where plans for massive voter bribery failed to produce the desired result. This according to the participants of the press conference “How did election law violations influence the results” organized by the Vsesvit Civic Methodology and Information Center with the support of the International Renaissance Foundation.
Social psychologist Viktor Pushkar emphasized that society condemned those candidates that in 2012 expected to win through bribery. According to him, Kyiv showed that a candidate with a steady negative rating can be beaten by a person relatively unknown in the community. The expert noted that in general Ukrainian citizens voted for the preservation of political diversity and against total monopolization of power.
Viktor Harbar, coordinator of the Maidan Monitoring: Elections 2012 project, said they received 7062 reports of violations during the elections. Most of the complaints involved campaign agitation violations, administrative pressure, bribery, fraud and violations of election commissions functioning.
The expert gave the following reasons that the elections were not conducted properly:
– the election law;
– activity and inactivity of CEC, TECs and PECs;
– illegal interference in the election process by central and local authorities;
– activity and inactivity of the MIA.
