Results of the scholarship competition for studying in universities from Roma Education Foundation announced

Results of the scholarship competition for Roma students from Roma Education Foundation, which is financed by the German Foundation “Memory, Responsibility, Future”, were announced recently.

This year, the Foundation supported 70 Roma students enrolled in higher educational institutions of Ukraine out of 140 applicants. In general, support was provided to students obtaining bachelors degrees (80%), masters, and 4 PhD students. One third of the students supported by the Roma of Ukraine Program of the International Renaissance Foundation this year study law, every fifth student – economics. There are also students that study social sciences, humanities and other disciplines.

The average amount of scholarship granted to one student is 1000 euro this year. It mainly provides for coverage of tuition fee, partial book allowance, payment for internet services and other costs related to studying of Roma students.

Apart from the main scholarship for students who were supported in 2010/2011 academic year, there will be an additional opportunity to study English language courses. In summer 2011 supported students will be able to attend a training on employment (CV writing, preparation and participation in interview, search for jobs).

The program of scholarships for Roma students studying in Ukrainian universities is administered by the Rome of Ukraine Program of the International Renaissance Foundation.
