Global Ratings Acknowledge the Work of Ukrainian Think Tanks

01 February 2018

Ukrainian think tanks have traditionally fallen to the Global Go To Think Tank Index (GGTTI). Among them are CEDOS, Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiative Foundation, Ukrainian Center for European Policy - this year's participants of the Think Tank Development Initiative (TTDI), which is a joint project of the International Renaissance Foundation, the Open Society Initiative for Europe (OSIFE) and the Embassy of Sweden in Ukraine, as well as Institute of World Politics, which participated in the TTDI last year.

The 2017 Global Go To Think Tank Index (GGTTI) marks the eleventh year of continued efforts by the Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program (TTCSP) at the University of Pennsylvania to acknowledge the important contributions and emerging global trends of think tanks worldwide. The initial ranking of the world’s leading think tanks in 2006 was a response to a series of requests from donors, government officials, journalists, and scholars to produce regional and international rankings of the world’s preeminent think tanks.

Since its inception, the ongoing objective for the GGTTI is to gain understanding of the role think tanks play in governments and civil societies and by using this knowledge, to assist in improving the capacity and performance of think tanks around the world.

According to the University of Pennsylvania there are 7,815 think tanks around the world. As part of the nominations process, all 7,815 think tanks were contacted and encouraged to participate in the nomination and ranking process. In addition 62,000 journalists, policy makers, public and private donors, and functional and regional area specialists were invited to participate and over 4000 fully or partially completed the nomination and ranking surveys.
