Within the framework of the educational project “I HAVE THE RIGHT!” the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, jointly with the Online Justice House, with the support of the International Renaissance Foundation, created a series of educational videos “Know your right to land”. The purpose of the initiative is to enlarge the number of citizens, who are informed about their rights and who receive recommendations for their rights protection.

For many years the International Renaissance Foundation provided support to civil society initiatives aiming to enhance citizens’ legal capacity and to develop their legal literacy, which, in its turn, will promote access to justice.

A series of videos is a continuation of the land rights protection information campaign, launched in 2017 within the framework of the project “I HAVE THE RIGHT!”, in particular pertaining to regulation of land relations and countering agrarian business harassment.

From August till November 2017 anti-raider headquarters to counter agrarian business harassment were established in all regions of Ukraine on the initiative of the Ministry of Justice. As a result of these efforts, 17 criminal cases were initiated. In addition, 15 thousand citizens received legal advice. Since April 2018 the created anti-raider headquarters work on a permanent basis.

The videos answer to the most urgent questions to address citizens’ concerns. Professional lawyers and experts provide exhaustive answers on land legal relations, explain how to fill in applications and other documents, as well as highlight the legislation, which one needs to know in order to solve land issues, and provide a list of institutions, to which citizens may turn to, should their rights be violated.

The first presented video refers to the procedure of obtaining land lots by ATO members. The video talks about the following:

– legal provisions to regulate the procedure of prioritized allocation of land lots to ATO members for individual housing construction, individual gardening  and farming;

– conditions to provide land lot ownership rights to ATO members;

– set sizes of land lots, which citizens of Ukraine (including ATO members) can receive free of charge from the land reserves owned by the state or municipalities.

The video provides an exhaustive list of documents to be filed with the authorities by ATO members interested in obtaining land lot ownership rights. The video also explains the procedure how the application to obtain a land lot shall be submitted, who shall make decisions on a land lot allocation, etc.
