Prominent Philanthropist George Soros Turns 90

ON THE PICTURE: George Soros, March 2013

Today, August 12, is the birthday of George Soros, one of the world most famous philanthropists and a strong advocate for freedom and equality. Soros is the founder of the network of the Open Society Foundations and the Renaissance Foundation.

On this occasion, the Foundation’s team wishes George Soros a very happy birthday and expresses thanks for his outstanding support in building the open society in Ukraine and around the world.

During his lifetime, George Soros donated more than $ 33 billion to charity. As a child, he was prosecuted by the Nazis in Budapest because of his Jewish origin. And later, after liberation of Hungary from German occupation and the arrival of the Soviet Union in Budapest, he fell under influence of Soviet communism, too.

Soros used charity to fight authoritarianism, racism and intolerance.

As Inside Philanthropy put it: “No other donor is doing more to counter the wave of authoritarianism around the world.”

On this special day of George Soros’s birthday, we would like to thank all our partners for their hard work and faith in the open society. We are building the open society together, to make sure all people in our country feel dignified, included in the nation formation, and to create equal opportunities for all.
