Government approves basis of Ministry of Internal Affairs reform

Minister of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov has released the full text of documents on the reform of the interior ministry and thanked the experts involved for their consultations.

Minister of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov has released the full text of documents on the reform of the interior ministry and thanked the experts involved for their consultations.

“We are publishing the full text of the documents on the reform of the MIA of Ukraine, which take into account all the changes that were made as a result of discussions at government meetings,” the minister said, adding that these are the first official documents that outline the reform of the interior ministry.

This marks the beginning of the practical implementation of reforms developed together with the independent Expert Council. The minister thanked everyone who worked on the reforms, including civil activists and experts from international organizations.

The Expert Council included representatives from: the Kharkiv Human Rights Group, Ukrainian Helsinki Human Rights Union, Center for Political and Legal Reforms, Association of Ukrainian Human Rights Monitors on Law Enforcement, Social Action Center, Kharkiv Institute of Social Researches, La Strada-Ukraine and the Civil Liberties Center.

The International Renaissance Foundation was represented in the expert council by Roman Romanov, Director of the Human Rights and Justice Program Initiative. IRF will continue to work with the government and civil society organizations on reforming Ukraine’s internal affairs system.
