II Crimean forum of former politician prisoners of the communist regimes, representatives of national liberation movements and human rights defenders culminated in the signing of the final document of appeal to the President of Ukraine and foreign governments called “Universal values are the guarantee of security in the world.”

The document written by forum members during the session was voted for the final version. It was stressed on the urgency of three conclusions that were adopted in 2012 on the I Crimean forum held in Simferopol: violations of the Crimean Tatar people’s rights were brought to reality by the impunity of the crimes of communism; Russia’s future is threatened by its past; the success of Ukrainian democracy is the key to civilizational transformation of the communist regime.

The Chairman of the Mejlis Refat Chubarov and Vice Rector of UCU, dissident Myroslav Marynovych thanked all who came, took part in the Crimean discussion and voted for the document.

“The participants of the forum are not just respectable people, but people with huge experience of fighting totalitarian regimes. They advocated human’s dignity. When they express their views, experts from different areas and politicians from the worldwide listen to them. I know that they will be the leaders of Ukrainians, Crimean Tatars and the Crimea. They do not only share the principles of justice. These are people of conscience who were, are and will be such. Let God grant us to learn from their perseverance,” said Refat Chubarov.

Do not let the strong men to destroy a human, said at the forum Miroslav Marynovych, summing up everything. According to him, this regularity can be traced:  growing of the authoritarian tendencies produces a more need of strong movement for human rights, as, for example, it was in the 70-80 years of the twentieth century.

During the forum, participants expressed their criticism for ignoring human rights and for existing structures of OSCE which by consensus principles have become hostages of the ill-will states that do not want to play by the rules and recognize the principles of the Helsinki agreement.

“In the world, interest in the Helsinki agreements is fading due to objective reasons. Attention to human rights is less than to the political or economic issues. We are very worried about the so called “entropy of humanity.” The theme of the Crimea and Ukraine comes down out of sight of the international community. While our problems were sensational, we were in newspapers, but now we are gone. But blood and murder persists instead. Extrajudicial prosecution and disappearances. Unfortunately, evil is talented in the invention of forms to mock the man. We would like to urge the international community to be aware of the need – to protect a person,” said Miroslav Marynovych.

Forum members expect the Crimean Forum’s document will become a voice of Ukraine which will be caught by Western parliamentarians who will make it even louder.

Let’s remind that on November 9, 2016 it’s been 40 years since the foundation of the Ukrainian Helsinki Group, which took achievements of the famous Final Act of the Helsinki Accords as a ground for its struggle for human rights. On this occasion, on November 10 a commemorative meeting with discussing of the achievements, challenges and losses of Helsinki movement for human rights was held in Lviv. Among the 150 participants of the forum there were political prisoners and their families from 16 countries, including Ukraine (Belarus, Armenia, Georgia, Estonia, Israel, Canada, Latvia, Lithuania, Germany, Poland, Russia, the USA, Ukraine, France, the Czech Republic, Sweden).
