Good cooperation between our countries is a key factor in the security and stability of the region and the well-being of our societies.
In the past few weeks, conflict over historical memory is intensifying between Ukraine and Poland. Controversial questions of interpretation of the past have almost completely taken over the relations between our countries. We believe that Ukrainian-Polish relations should not become hostage to history. Although the complex past must be remembered, it is very important that on both sides there is a desire for mutual understanding, dialogue and counteraction to confrontation and nationalism. Historical problems, in regard to which we can not find mutual understanding, should not block the future development of relations between modern Ukraine and Poland. In matters pertaining to the past, Ukraine and Poland should be prepared to apply the principle of “agree to disagree”. Today we are persistently repeating those recommendations which were layed down in the jointly prepared text “Priority Partnership. Common vision of Polish-Ukrainian relations” (in Ukrainian).
