Volyn communities implement their own initiatives to address pressing local problems

Within the competition of social projects “Public initiative in action”, playgrounds are being established, contests and football tournaments are held, ancient monuments are being restored, sports and cultural centers for youth are being created, conditions for children in pre-school organizations and schools are being improved, the School of civic activist is established in different parts of Volyn Oblast.

The competition of social projects “Public initiative in action”, which was announced by the Association of Volyn Youth Rights Protection under the project “Developing a mechanism of public initiatives implementation in Volyn Oblast” supported by the International Renaissance Foundation, received project proposals from many communities of Volyn Oblast. Interesting ideas which aimed at addressing the pressing local problems, demonstrate that communities’ are not indifferent to the difficulties they constantly face. The competition commission carefully assessed each project proposal and selected 13 projects for implementation.

It is impressive that due to support of the projects by the Association of Volyn Youth Rights Protection, representatives of business and local authorities get also involved into projects. Thus, for instance, local entrepreneurs and city council joined the project of funding internet-library in Volodymyr-Volynsky Agricultural College. Local residents and village council made their contributions into establishment of playground for children in Zabrody village of Ratniv district. District council of Turiysk also supported their community in efforts to restore historical monument – the White Bridge. Each winning project found like-minded partners for implementation.
