Ukrainian activists to provide free assistance to Euro-2012 guests

IRF Editor Europe and the World

Volunteers and activists of the Friendly Ukraine initiative will be providing free assistance to foreign tourists during Euro-2012. The initiative is being supported by the International Renaissance Foundation.

Presentations of the initiative were held on May 21 in the four Euro-2012 host cities in Ukraine (Kyiv, Kharkiv, Donetsk and Lviv). With the help of balloons, the participants sent symbolic invitations inviting tourists to come experience Ukrainian hospitality during Euro-2012 and urging Ukrainians to become volunteers.

Friendly Ukraine is a nonpolitical initiative aimed at showing that despite the negative image created by the Ukrainian government and businesses that have excessively inflated prices for Euro-2012, Ukrainians are friendly and hospitable. Coordinating their efforts through social networks, Ukrainians will offer tourists free-of-charge assistance, including: housing, airport transfer, English speaking tours, translation and informational services, etc.

Facebook group and three websites have been created as part of the initiative offering the following services:
www.rooms4free.org.ua – free accommodation in Euro-2012 host cities
www.2012well.com.ua – free transfers, tours, informational and translation services
www.Icanhelpu.com.ua – free informational and translation services for tourists (I Can Help U initiative)
