Strategic support for the Ukrainian community and refugees in Moldova was discussed in Chisinau

On May 12, a meeting was held at the Ukrainian House in Chisinau between the leadership of the National Congress of Ukrainians in Moldova (NCUM) and representatives of the Soros Moldova and Vidrodzhennia foundations, focusing on the development of civic initiatives and assistance to internally displaced persons.

According to Ukrinform, this was reported on Facebook by NCUM Chairman Dmytro Lekartsev.

The talks were attended by Daniela Vidaiu, director of the Soros Moldova Foundation, and Oleksandr Sushko, executive director of the International Renaissance Foundation.

The parties reviewed the results of the Congress’s work over the past five years, particularly with regard to support for ethnic Ukrainians and Ukrainian citizens who have fled to Moldova due to the full-scale war.

The key topics of discussion were:

  • Current challenges facing the Ukrainian community in Moldova;
  • Strengthening European integration through the development of democratic processes;
  • Prospects for regional cooperation and support for local communities;
  • Systematic communication with Ukrainian communities in need of assistance.

Particular emphasis was placed on strengthening civic participation and building civil society as a tool for bringing Moldova and Ukraine closer to the Europeanтором.

“We look forward to further developing our cooperation in areas that are important to our communities and to the democratic development of society,” said Dmytro Lekartsev.

As a reminder, Paun Rogovei, Ukraine’s Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova, held a wrap-up meeting with leaders of the Ukrainian community. The event was dedicated to reviewing their joint work in 2025 and planning priorities for the coming year.
