The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine organized the second press tour for Latin American journalists

At the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, a group of nine Latin American journalists from nine countries – Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Guatemala, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Mexico – visited Ukraine from September 9 to 14.

During the visit, the journalists met with the President of Ukraine, the Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, members of parliament who head the groups on interparliamentary relations with Latin American countries, the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, the leadership of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War and the Ukrainian Veterans’ Fund, as well as representatives of leading organizations of Ukrainian civil society.

In addition, representatives of the Latin American media took part in the fourth First Ladies and Gentlemen Summit held on September 12 in Kyiv at the initiative of the First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska and dedicated to the protection of children.

As part of this year’s Summit of the Crimea Platform, journalists had the opportunity to take part in the final press conference and talk to relatives of political prisoners and prisoners of war from Crimea.

The Latin American journalists visited the crime scenes of the Russian Federation in the city of Chernihiv and Chernihiv region – a school in the village of Yahidne, in the basement of which local residents were held during the occupation, the premises of the Chernihiv Olympic Ski Base and the Chernihiv Olympic Training and Sports Center, damaged by Russian troops during the defense of Chernihiv, and the Chernihiv Regional Academic Ukrainian Music and Drama Theater named after Taras Shevchenko, which was subjected to rocket fire in August 2023. The journalists also met with local activists, volunteers, and doctors who worked during the encirclement of Chernihiv in February-March 2022.

The visit of Latin American media representatives was organized with the support of the International Renaissance Foundation and the Friedrich Ebert Foundation.

It is worth noting that this is the second time that the MFA has organized a press tour of Latin American media representatives to Ukraine. The first press tour, whose key topics were preparations for the Global Peace Summit in Switzerland, nuclear and radiation safety, crimes of ecocide and child abduction committed by the Russian Federation, was organized in May 2024.
