The International Renaissance Foundation condemns Russia’s increased military presence at our borders as a deliberate threat to Ukraine’s independence, territorial integrity and European choice. Any further military escalation would cause immense humanitarian costs and must be prevented.
Ukraine is a sovereign, democratic state whose people have the right to self-determination, including their choice of values, alliances, and political systems. We urge the Russian Federation to move swiftly to defuse the crisis by withdrawing its troops from Ukraine’s borders. We call on the world’s democracies to stand with Ukraine in solidarity and work together for de-escalation.
