Mobile data terminals to facilitate communication between police and community launched in Kyiv

On March 26, a presentation of an innovative interaction tool was held for citizens as well as journalists.

Mykola Sioma, director of the Ukrainian Legal Aid Foundation, said: “The Foundation is actively working to solve the problems of access to justice and to ensure equal rights for citizens. The National Police Mobile Data Terminal is one of such solutions, and a result of hard and long work of the Foundation, jointly with the leadership of the National Police. The mobile data terminal is a point of access of citizens to the National Police services established with the purpose to enable the Kyiv city residents and the police to communicate effectively”.

Oleksandr Sushko, Executive Director of the International Renaissance Foundation, said: “For the International Renaissance Foundation, this is a good example of an adequate level of cooperation between state bodies and a charitable organization, which seeks to assist the government in ensuring the due level of services, accessible and convenient for citizens. Although this is not the first case of our cooperation with the National Police, we hope that this pilot project will mark the beginning of a new tradition of introducing information technologies into the domain of interaction between the police and citizens, meeting the demands of the latter. It is important to also extend this practice to the regions, where citizens might experience a certain lack of direct communication with authorities, and the lack of ability to get the information across to the state bodies”.

Mobile data terminals were developed by the National Police of Ukraine in cooperation with the Ukrainian Legal Aid Foundation, with the support of the Human Rights and Justice Program Initiative of the International Renaissance Foundation and the US Embassy in Ukraine.
