The XVII International Roma Jazz Festival “Pap Jazz Fest 2014”, organized by the Transcarpathia Roma Musical Culture Society "Lautari", will take place on Dec. 6, 2014 at 17:00 at the Zakarpattia Oblast Philharmonic (Teatralna Sq.) in Uzhhorod.
The XVII International Roma Jazz Festival “Pap Jazz Fest 2014”, organized by the Transcarpathia Roma Musical Culture Society “Lautari”, will take place on Dec. 6, 2014 at 17:00 at the Zakarpattia Oblast Philharmonic (Teatralna Sq.) in Uzhhorod.
Support for the festival is provided by the Department of Culture and Department of Nationalities and Religions of the Oblast State Administration, Uzhhorod City Council, International Renaissance Foundation and U.S. Embassy in Ukraine. Dastor Shopping Center is the general sponsor of the festival.
Zakarpattia is one of the most ethnically diverse regions in Central Europe and is home to some 30,000 Roma (almost a quarter of all Roma in Ukraine).
The festival has become something of a visiting card of Uzhhorod, which thanks to events like this is gradually regaining its image as a center of music and art in Europe. An important aspect of this project is that by supporting international cultural initiatives it promotes Ukraine’s integration into the international cultural space and the development of different forms of cultural exchange between Ukraine and other countries.
The Pap Jazz Fest was originated by the late Vilmosh Pap, a celebrated Roma jazz musician from Zakarpattia.
