Since January of 2010, within the framework of one of the projects, which is supported by the Civil Society Impact Enhancement Program of the International Renaissance Foundation, the program also ensures provision of legal support to public initiatives in the area of local development and in relations of communities with authorities.

The territory of legal support covers the following: Ternopil, Lviv, Zakarpattia, Ivano-Frankivsk and Volyn Oblasts. Legal support is intended both for organizations, communities, initiative groups in oblast centers and large cities and is focused on involvement of residents of villages, small towns and districts into processes of self-organization and implementation of public projects in the area of local development.

Legal support is being provided to active citizens who participate or want to participate in resolution of problems of local development, to NGOs, charitable organizations, associations of residents of multi-apartment buildings, other organizations, advisory public bodies that operate in bodies of authority, population self-organization bodies, coalitions of organizations of the public sector and to networks, public projects and initiatives in the area of local development, in relations with bodies of authority, and to activists, local human rights activists, and groups of community residents.
