Eurobus leaves Warsaw for trip to Ukraine
On May 12, the Eurobus set off for Ukraine from the Schuman Parade in Warsaw. Its journey is being organized by the Foundation of Regional Initiatives (Kharkiv) with support of the International Renaissance Foundation’s European Program and the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine.
The project team, which includes citizens of Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Poland and Ukraine, walked down Warsaw’s main street waving flags and symbols of the EU and Ukraine. Some 500 children of all ages took part in this year’s parade, after which the Eurobus departed for its journey through towns and villages of Ukraine.
“The goal of each Eurobus is to inspire youth in rural areas of Ukraine. We start at the Schuman Parade because there’s a great European charge in the atmosphere and desire to change the world around us. The Eurobus team will pass this charge on to youth in small Ukrainian communities,” said Anton Shyhimaha, the project coordinator.
In each of the competitively selected communities the Eurobus team will organize a Europe Day celebration and realize small local projects. There will also be training sessions on European integration and civic activism, competitions and quizzes.
