An exhibition “European Essence of Luhansk Oblast” continues in Luhansk
At different times, since 1724, representatives of the peoples of Europe have worked in the Luhansk oblast, creating coal and steel enterprises, medical and educational institutions, cultural and architectural values.
Charles Gascoigne, Gustav de Calve, Kazimierz Mstsyhovskyy, Gustav Hartmann, Johannes Dahl, Rudolf Hennefeld, Frederic Le Ple – they all became part of the history of Luhansk, Lysychansk, Slovyanoserbiya, Alchevsk, Stakhanov, Svatov and other towns and villages of the region.
The information for the exhibition was collected during four months, it is based on the papers of outstanding scholars, materials of natural history museums, libraries, museums of enterprises, established with the help of foreign capital or with participation of the Europeans.
Here one can find out about creation of Slovyanoserbiya, pioneers of coal fields in Donbas, founders of Luhansk foundry and locomotive factories, establishment of the first meteorological station, first doctors and occupational pathology service, origin of distilling and about the person who brought the first football ball to Luhansk.
The exhibition can be visited until October 1, 2010, then it is moved to the library of the Eastern Ukrainian University named after Volodymyr Dahl.
The project also envisages publishing of the eponymous book. Its presentation is scheduled for October 11, 2010.
