Sumy European Information Center sums up the results of its operation and presents a plan for its activity for 2010
The following partners of the European Information Center participated in the press conference: representatives of oblast administration on education, Network of European Clubs of Sumy Region, Sumy State University, Oblast Universal Scientific Library and NGO “Center for European Initiatives”.
The European Information Center in the city of Sumy was founded in October of 2005 per initiative and under the support of the International Renaissance Foundation. The Project “European Information Center” in Sumy is being implemented in cooperation with NGO “Center for European Initiatives” and Sumy Oblast Universal Scientific Library named after N.K. Krupska.
The goal of activity of the Center is provision of a wide access to information resources on European integration and dissemination of knowledge about the European Union, relations between Ukraine and the EU, policy of the European integration of Ukraine, and European values.
A consultant, who works at the European Information Center, helps visitors to find answers to their questions. The Library of the European Information Center has more than 700 items of specialized literature and information materials on European integration. Any person can come to the European Information Center, call it on the phone or contact it through the Internet, in order to use the Center’s services.
In order to disseminate knowledge about European values and processes of European integration, the European Information Center conducts various educational and informational-training events for various groups of population.
In 2009, the Center conducted more than 50 of such events, including organization of celebration of Days of Europe, trainings, seminars and role-playing games on the topics of Europe, online conferences, and international exchanges.
In 2009, 12 sections with information about Europe were created in regional libraries of the oblast and further support and development of these libraries is planned for 2010.
A sociological research “Attitude of Residents of Sumy Oblast to European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine” was conducted in January, 2009. The results of the research can be found at the web-site www.eu.sumy.ua.
Since 2007, the European Information Center has been continuing to coordinate and provide comprehensive support in development and implementation of new projects of the Network of European Clubs of Sumy Region.
Within the framework of the new project in 2010, the European Information Center plans to expand cooperation with local bodies of authority, journalists and NGOs, by conducting round tables, seminars, training visits, press conferences, etc. In addition, informational-educational activity for youth and library workers will continue. A regular series of events, devoted to celebration of Days of Europe 2010, is planned for May.
