Scientific-practical conference “Socio-cultural Development of the Black Sea Region: the European Context” took place in Mykolaiv

October 21, 2009, a scientific-practical conference “Socio-cultural Development of the Black Sea Region: the European Context” took place at Petro Mohyla Black Sea State University in Mykolaiv, under the support of the International Renaissance Foundation.

The conference was organized by the University jointly with Mykolaiv City Charitable Foundation META “From joint vision – to joint actions”, M.L. Kropyvnytsky Central Library of Mykolaiv, under the support of the International Renaissance Foundation, within the framework of implementation of the project “Information-educational campaign “European city of Mykolaiv — open to the world”.

The aim of the conference was to discuss opportunities and prospects of the Black Sea Region and Mykolaiv Region in implementation of Ukraine’s direction for the European integration.

Scholars, students, representatives of local bodies of authority, cultural and educational institutions, and public organizations participated in the work of the conference.

Guests from the International Renaissance Foundation, Odesa, Rivne and other cities of Ukraine, Saint Petersburg, Nizhniy Novgorod (Russia), US Peace Corps Volunteer in Ukraine Ch. McConnel were present at the conference.

Participants’ speeches demonstrated multi-field activity of scholars and Mykolaiv public in studying, development and enhancement of European integration links of the region.

Materials of the scientific-practical conference will be published in topic issues of a specialized scientific-methodological magazine “Scientific Works” of Petro Mohyla Black Sea State University.

An art exhibition of Inna M’yalo, a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine, “Conversation with the Guardian Angel”, was conducted along with the conference.

Mykolaiv City Mayor V.D.Chaika participated in the work of the plenary sitting.
