International Renaissance Foundation and Foundation for Medical Law and Bioethics of Ukraine have chosen the intern in the realm of human rights protection in the area of health care

Law and Health Initiative of the International Renaissance Foundation and of the Institute of Open Society and All-Ukrainian NGO “Foundation for Medical Law and Bioethics of Ukraine” greet the winner of Ukraine’s first internship program in the realm of human rights protection in the area of health care!

Oksana Kohut, student of law faculty of Ivan Franko Lviv National University, won per results of several interviews in the open competition.

From September of 2004, Oksana was a student and from September of 2007 she became a student-consultant of the Laboratory of Practical Law (legal clinic) that operates on the basis of the law faculty of Ivan Franko Lviv National University. During the period of consulting at the legal clinic she elaborated and provided free legal assistance in more than thirty cases. In addition, she used to be actively engaged into lecturing at the Lviv Children’s Reception Center.

Since September of 2005, Oksana has been a member of a student youth organization “Association of Law Students” and since October of 2005 – a member of a student organization ELSA. During the period of studying at the university she actively participated in various All-Ukrainian and International Scholar-practical Events.

During one year Oksana will undertake an internship at the All-Ukrainian NGO “Foundation for Medical Law and Bioethics of Ukraine”. During the internship she will work on a practical guide “Legal Status of Subjects of Medical Legal Relations” (working title of the book), which was developed by a group of Ukrainian and international experts of the IRF and IBC during 2007-2009.

The internship also entails the following: participation in preparation of procedural documents, necessary in working with medical cases; carrying out claim-related work in the area of medical law; examination of medical cases in courts of general and special jurisdiction; familiarization with functioning of arbitration court in the area of health care and with practices of the European Court of Human Rights in the realm of health care.
