A field sitting of Coordination Council on Palliative and Hospice Care of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine took place in Luhansk
October 28-29, 2009, a field sitting of Coordination Council on Palliative and Hospice Care of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine took place in Luhansk, under the financial support of the International Renaissance Foundation. The sitting was devoted to the World Palliative Care Day, which had been commemorated on October 10 of 2009.
A roundtable “Spiritual Foundations of Palliative Care” was conducted within the framework of the sitting of the Coordination Council.
Leading specialists on palliative direction from all over Ukraine were invited to participate in the sitting.
A range of issues regarding organization of palliative and hospice care in Ukraine and in Luhansk Oblast in particular, necessity of psychological and spiritual support of patients and workers of hospice facilities, was discussed at the sitting. Also, one of the best experiences in organization of operation of a hospice was presented, on the example of Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast Hospital “Hospice” and state-confessional relations in the area of medical care was discussed.
The following people participated in the sitting of the Coordination Council:
- Z.M. Mytnyk, Deputy Minister of Health of Ukraine;
- Yu. I. Hubsky, Director of State Enterprise “Institute of Palliative and Hospice Medicine” of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine;
- Leadership of the Main Administration of Healthcare of Luhansk Oblast State Administration, Luhansk Oblast Cancer Detection Center and Luhansk Oblast Charitable Foundation named after Yu. O. Yenenko;
- Viktoria Tymoshevska, Public Health Program Director, International Renaissance Foundation;
- Kseniya Shapoval-Deinega, Coordinator of Component “Palliative Care” of Public Health Program of the International Renaissance Foundation;
- Director of Oblast Hospital “Hospice” of the city of Ivano-Frankivsk and other leading specialists and representatives of church.
