A draw for the national round of the Knowledge competition among secondary school students on European integration “Europa Nostra” is completed
As the result of the draw the countries to be presented by each of the 27 teams were defined.
On July 13, 2009 in the office of Donetsk Youth Debate Centre a draw to define countries to be presented by each of the 27 secondary school teams during the national round of the competition was conducted.
The draw procedure was witnessed by independent juries and a representative of the winning team from Donetsk region: Svitlana Gordeychuk – chef specialist of the Department of Education and Science of Donetsk regional administration, Tetyana Stroy – head of the NGO Donetsk Press Club, free-lance journalists Olena Samoylenko and Tetyana Myhailova; Andriy Udovenko, director of the school #61 – representative of the first round winning team from Donetsk region.
The second round will take place in Kiev where the reams will compete not only for the title of the best connoisseur of Europe but also for the extraordinary prize – “European holidays” – trip to the heart of Europe – Brussels! During the second round the teams will be suggested to present one of the EU Member States, participate in policy debates and present an Action plan on improvement of cooperation between the EU and Ukraine and using opportunities of financial assistance provided to Ukraine by the EU.
The aim of the project is to raise awareness of Ukrainians about the EU-Ukraine relations and particularly about the programmes of financial and technical assistance, as well as about the opportunities for young Ukrainians provided through these programmes. The first round of the project was being implemented in March-June 2009 in the Internet. 495 secondary school teams participated in the first round.
The project is funded by the EU and co-funded by the International Renaissance Foundation.
