Under the support of the Program, foreign authors’ outstanding works on economics, philosophy, history, sociology, political science, psychology, theory and history of literature, art history, religion and allied disciplines were published in Ukraine. Ukrainian readers got an opportunity to become familiar with works by Jürgen Habermas, Susan Sontag, Michel Foucault, Adam Michnik, Paul Ricoeur, Martin Heidegger and many other authors. The Program also contributed to publishing of fiction and children’s literature.

The partners of the Program are the following: the Goethe-Institute, the British Council in Ukraine, the Polish Institute in Kyiv, the Department of Press, Culture and Information of the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine and the Skovoroda Program of the French Embassy in Ukraine.

As of October 20, 2009, under the support of the Program, 518 translations of books were published in Ukraine, about 200 book titles are being prepared for printing, and 720 projects were supported and almost 100 Ukrainian publishing houses were financed for the total amount of 4.213 million US dollars.

Roman Szporluk, Professor, Director of the Harvard Ukrainian Research Institute (Cambridge, Massachusetts, U.S.A.), Chair of Supervisory Council of the IRF, noted that “thanks to the International Renaissance Foundation and its translation program, Ukraine has become a country that is a part of the world community.”

Electronic Archive

In the electronic archive that is open for all users, you can find out what books were translated and published under the support of the Foundation.

The archive provides systematized information on the books that are translated and published within the framework of the Translation Project of SCAAP of the International Renaissance Foundation and provides an opportunity to search for books according to topic sections, names of authors and translators, names of publishing houses and other parameters.

Events on the occasion of the Publication of the 500th translated book title

Events, which are being conducted by the International Renaissance Foundation on the occasion of the publication of the 500th book title, are focused not only on presentation of achievements of the Social Capital and Academic Publications Program, but also on the initiation of a discussion of problems of the Ukrainian book industry and translation of foreign literature.

The goal of our events is to draw attention of the public, the state and mass media to the problems of the Ukrainian book industry.
