Implementation of Ukraine’s EU-related reforms remains selective, says report

Implementation of priorities identified in the EU-Ukraine Association Agenda remains selective, says a report presented by Ukrainian civil society experts. Ukraine’s new administration has changed the country’s EU integration value priorities, as less attention is now being paid to political and democratic transformations, instead more emphasis is made on the economic co-operation with the EU, the study says.
Initiative group Alpbach-Kyiv, with the support of the International Renaissance Foundation, held a Summer School on European Integration in Kyiv at the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, June 29-July 9.
A project “European Face of Luhansk Oblast” was launched in Luhansk in June. The project aims at researching contribution of the European countries’ natives into development of Luhansk Oblast. This project is being implemented by the Luhansk Charitable Foundation “Light of Heart”, with support of the International Renaissance Foundation, and will last until October 2010. The project “European Face of Luhansk Oblast” is a local history research, the results of which will be presented through publication of a book and arranging of a traveling exhibition devoted to the Day of Luhansk.
June 17, 2010, Public Council at the Ministry of Environment recognized public discussion of the draft Strategy of National Environmental Policy until 2020 as such that had not happened.
June 11, the roundtable “Prospects of removing visa barriers from the EU to Ukraine and other Eastern European countries” was held in Kyiv. The roundtable was organized by the Center for Peace, Conversion and Foreign Policy of Ukraine and Civic Initiative “Europe without Barriers”, supported by the International Renaissance Foundation.
June 3, 2010, “Europe without Barriers” Initiative, supported by the International Renaissance Foundation, presented a translated version of the EU Visa Code with comments at the press-center of Glavred-Media holding.
May 21, 2010, Ukrainian experts and journalists had a meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister of Reintegration of Moldova Viktor Osipov at the International Renaissance Foundation. The meeting was organized by the IRF European Program in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova.
Civil society monitoring of the implementation of the EU-Ukraine Association Agenda – the bilateral document outlining reforms to be carried out by Ukraine in cooperation with the EU – has been launched in Ukraine. The Project is implemented by the Consortium of think tanks and funded by the European Program of the International Renaissance Foundation.
